The work begins long before the object is finished.
Each object moves through a quiet process of shaping, drying, carving, refining and firing. Nothing is rushed. The surface, weight and presence of a piece are built slowly, through touch, time and attention.
A slow conversation with clay
Forming
Each object begins by hand, through coiling, pinching, slab building or slow shaping.
Surface
The surface is built through carving, pressing, folding, scraping or layering. Marks become part of the object.
Drying & First Firing
The work dries slowly before entering the kiln for the first time. This first firing strengthens the clay and prepares it for next stage.
Glazing
Glazes, oxides and finishes are applied adding depth, colour and surface variation before the second firing. This is where clay becomes permanent.
Final Firing & Finishing
The second firing completes the transformation. Finished by hand, each object is considered in relation to atmosphere. Only then it feels complete.
